In your first session, we will take the time to discuss how counselling works and what you can expect from future sessions. The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and build a foundation of trust. We will discuss confidentiality, ensuring you feel safe and informed about how your information is handled; I will then gather personal information from you. We will explore the story of what brings you to counselling, and together, we will set goals for your counselling journey. This initial session is a collaborative step toward understanding your needs and beginning your path to healing.
A session typically lasts an hour, although the length may vary depending on your specific needs and preferences.
The number of sessions you require will vary from person to person, according to your goals and commitment
Yes, parents are an essential part of the counselling process for children. Before a child under 14 begins counselling, we complete parent/caregiver sessions to gather background information and discuss how best to support your child. For children under 12 years old, parents are welcome to attend sessions and actively participate in the therapeutic process, including joining in play therapy activities. This collaborative approach helps create a supportive environment for your child’s growth and healing. Parent/carer-children sessions aim to improve attachments with each other.
